Holy airplane museum, Batman!

After taking delivery of the trailer this morning, I hit the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson. I had heard great things about it, but I was blown away by how big and how good it is. For an archives person, museums are a nirvana world that we can get lost in.

I’ve learned why they sell two day passes, as I spent 4 hours there and saw only 4 of the 7 hangars, and less than half of the aircraft displayed outside. Even skipping over many of the small displays along the walls, I probably only viewed 25% of it with the time and attention that I wanted to. Since this place is only around 300miles away, I’ll be back on a dedicated trip to give this museum the full attention it deserves. A photo dump or two will be coming later.

Also, I own this now.

I think my dad took me to the Pima museum for my 12th birthday. Even back then I loved it. It would be wonderful to go back some day.

MiG-17s are pretty special, especially if you get to see it lit up close.

I saw it in the distance, but I started on the other end outside and never made it that far. I’m only four hours away, so I’m definitely going to plan a weekend trip back to Tucson and give the place the two-day visit it deserves.
